Young people join together to tackle the issues in their community that they care most about.

YOUTH SERVICES

Our Youth Services program is designed to encourage all aspects of Youth Leadership. We do this by supporting and collaborating with the Interact Club at Oak Bay High School.

Interact is a club for young people ages 12-18 who want to join together to tackle the issues in their community that they care most about. Interact’s name is a combination of the words international and action.

Our Interact Club at Oak Bay High School has been around for decades! On March 1, 1991 the Rotary Club of Oak Bay sowed a seed by chartering an Interact Club at the Oak Bay High School. On March 1, 2016 at their luncheon meeting the Rotary Club invited over a dozen Interactors from Oak Bay High to celebrate their Silver Jubilee.

Interactors have participated in programs that are fun and offer meaningful service activities. They also provide a chance for these young people to develop leadership skills and make new friends.

Over the years the Oak Bay High School Interact Club has actively participated in local projects such as the Bowker Creek clean-up, the Cattle point Broom Bash, cleaning the skateboard park, raising funds for the Canadian Cancer Society, painting bowls for Souper Bowls for Hope, volunteering at Soap for Hope and Our Place and hosting the Youth Environmental Stewardship BC. Through their indefatigable energy they have also excelled in raising thousands of dollars for International Projects such as mosquito nets for Uganda, boring wells in Sierra Leone, assisting AIDS orphans in South Africa, girls school in Malawi, Haiti earthquake relief, bunnies for Rwanda, Guatemala Women’s’ Center and Signs of Hope in Africa.
