Rotary Club of Oak Bay
Bulletin, 13 October, 2020
By Jennifer Sharlow

President Steve Sharlow opened the meeting noting that it was a wet, windy day in Victoria. The meeting was conducted on zoom and was not hybrid.
Joan F then shared a touching “O Canada” video and John provided a thoughtful invocation.

Guests:
We welcomed two visitors, Deane and Brooke. They joined in Club Day activities and later in the program they discussed a proposal for a Band Shell at Turkey Head.

Announcements:
Joan Firkins shared that it was World Polio Month and right now there are 19 million people walking on the Earth, who would have otherwise been paralyzed. Since 1988, 3 billion children have received the vaccine.

Club Day Committee meetings:
Those in attendance broke out into heir respective Committee meetings. Reports on discussions should be filed with Tav Mac and may be reviewed below. (* At the time of editing only Peter has reported. The Youth Services report is below.)

Celebrations Master: Kris finished the meeting with a fun and informative quiz about Rotary, followed by happy and sad dollars.

      1. We have at least one student from Oak Bay High applying for potential outbound exchange starting in August/September 2021 through to June/July 2022

      3. We are collaborating with Harbourside and Victoria for interviews, selection and support. There is at least one additional candidate in process of applying.
      4. If we have an outbound student, we will also host an inbound student (subject to vaccinations)
      5. There are a couple of additional candidates who were selected last year but the program was cancelled due to COVID. They  will also be considered this year subject to vaccinations.
