Bulletin, 11 June, 2019
By Alyx Valdal
Joan Firkins chaired the meeting on behalf of President Peter Lawrie. After the National Anthem the invocation was delivered by Joan Peggs. Buffet lunch followed and then Joan P welcomed the following visitors: Rotarian, Bill Coffman is from Red Lodge Mountain Club. Additionally guests Chris Kenshaw and  Jenny Boulet (guest of Jack Petrie) joined us.
Joan Peggs:  The Poinsettia fundraiser needs a new host home for storage and distribution. Everyone please think about possible facilities such as garages or halls that may accommodate us.
The Flag Program needs is a success but continues to seek more subscribers. Please ask your twelve nearest neighbours to join you in showing their Canadian pride. If you have a truck or SUV, please let Joan know as we need help transporting flags for the installers.
Tav Macpherson: Annual dues are only $230 for the year commencing on 1 July 2019 and it is appreciated if they are paid as soon as possible but not later than 25 June. Cheques should be given directly to Tav or Art Joyce or they may be mailed/left at the front desk of the Hotel. The club must confirm their roster numbers to RI before the end of the month.
Joan Firkins: Oak Bay night market is the 2nd Wednesday of each summer month. We need volunteers for each event. Thank you to those who are volunteering for the June market.
There is no luncheon meeting on 18 June. Instead there will be a fun evening of Bocce and Beer at Jack and Brannan’s home at 1750 Gonzales Ave. The only serious part of the evening will be a brief Installation program for the incoming Board that takes office on 1 July. Please register with Joan F.
Save the date: 23 July is the Club’s 45th Anniversary celebration (and Joan Pegg's birthday !). We will be having a special event. Stay tuned.
This Thursday, 13 June the Native Friendship Centre has a painting party from 5.00 until 7.00pm. If you can attend, please tell Joan ASAP.

Joan Firkins: There are many Rotary clubs in the world and many changes have occurred in recent years.  We have not had that many changes in our club. While the rules of Rotary have become more relaxed, Rotary’s core values will always be the same. Each club can do whatever works for that club so that members can be active and engaged Rotarians, without cutting into family, business or personal time. Here are some changes for our club, that we will try for next year, starting in August:
Tuesday Meetings:
1st Tuesday meeting of the month we will host a speaker.
2nd Tuesday meeting will be dedicated to committee meetings and club days. This will be a working lunch (soup and sandwiches). Every member should be participating be on a committee and every committee must have at least three members.
3rd Tuesday meeting we will host a speaker.
4th Tuesday there will be NO meeting. The Board will hold their monthly meeting. Any member is entitled and welcome to attend a Board meeting.
5th Tuesday of the month is for service projects or vocational speakers. Note the Food Rescue project on 27 July (Saturday) and 3 August (Saturday).

Instead of signing up for events, projects, payments etc. in hard copy we will be able to sign up for online. Technology has arrived thanks to Adam who has done a great deal of work on the new website. We can use Club Runner (site supported by WordPress) where possible.
Joan F. requested that each table spend a few minutes discussing two questions that were placed in paper form on the tables.
1. Who would you like to see our club partner with for a service project?
2. Ideas for making the community better?
Reminder! No meeting next week at lunch.
Instead, we'll be at Jack's for Bocce and Burgers.
Meeting adjourned at 1.30pm.
