We're enthusiastic about raising funds for worthwhile projects!
To support our community and other areas far beyond Victoria, our club has various fundraising initiatives.
In the last year, we've had Canadian flag fundraisers, choir fundraisers, Thrifty's Smile Cards, fun runs, poinsettia sales, and merrythons. In the past we've also sold books, had Guatemalan scarf sales, sold small garden palm trees, and even organized a Jail N Bail.

Fly The Flag Fundraiser
To celebrate Victoria Day, Canada Day and Labour Day, residents in and visitors can expect to see over 400 Canadian flags flying on lawns of homes throughout the Greater Victoria area. Flying a 2 x 4 feet flag on an 8 foot pole is a major fundraiser for our Rotary Club. The premise underlying this program (which is in its fourth year) is simple and patriotic. For a $50 annual subscription our club members temporarily erect a flag on the subscriber’s lawn prior to the aforementioned holidays. Funds raised by our flag program go towards supporting our International and Community Services projects.

"This is a simple but an effective fundraiser. In 2013 when we first launched the program we had 131 subscribers. 10 2016, we had 323 subscribers. During these four years we have generated subscriptions worth over $45,000. Although a bulk of our subscribers are from the municipality of Oak Bay, through our members, friends and supporters of Rotary, we managed to attract subscribers from places in Greater Victoria such as Esquimalt, James Bay, Fairfield, Gonzales, Broadmead, Brentwood Bay, and the Saanich peninsula. Each year we hope to see a redder colour on peoples' lawns".
Victoria Soul Gospel Choir
The Soul Gospel Choir under the direction of engaging leader Checo Tohomaso is always a big hit in Victoria. This year the concert was held on Sunday October 8, 2016 at the Dave Dunnet Theatre, Oak Bay High School. Funds raised by this concert went towards our Community and Youth Services Projects.
Prior to Christmas our members deliver beautiful and colourful pots of Poinsettias in various shades and sizes. This door step delivery generates a net sum of approximately $1, 500. Funds raised by our Poinsettia sales go towards supporting our International and Community Services projects. To subscribe please contact Joan Peggs –250-598-1716
Each year on a Sunday morning in early December our club organizes its annual Merrython Fun Run. This is an 8 km fun run or a 4 km walk or 1 km for children 11. The event, originally started by the staff of the Henderson Recreation Center, dates back to the early 1980's.
For more information contact Heather Aked at Heather.Aked@raymondjames.ca
"It's a great community partnership. The Oak Bay Recreation Center provides the framework for advertising, the link to the municipality for course and event approval, space for the event, safety equipment etc.Our emphasis is on youth and literacy. Locally, we have supported the George Jay, Macaulay and Quadra Schools with smart boards, document projectors, musical instruments etc. We also support International projects involving youth, health and hygiene in Malawi, Rwanda, Guatemala, Mexico and India says Heather Aked who usually organizes this event with support of several club members".
Thrifty Foods Smile Cards
Our members who shop at Thrifty Foods have a Smile Card whereby 5% of dollar value of anything they purchase at any Thrifty Food Store is donated by Thrifty Foods to our Club’s Literacy Programs. We generate approximately $1,500 each year through this initiative. In the past years we have supported Literacy and other programs at George Jay, Quadra and Macauley Elementary Schools. Contact Janette Nation firstname.lastname@example.org if you need a Smile Card.
