Oak Bay High Jack Wallace Track Project
The Oak Bay High School Alumni Association in association with the Oak Bay Rotary Foundation and Oak Bay High School (SD #61) are embarking on a fundraising campaign to resurface the Jack Wallace Memorial Track. The track is Commonwealth Games legacy infrastructure – last resurfaced for 1994 – and while well maintained, it’s in need of a revamp.
Frequently, students stream around the Jack Wallace Memorial Track in a quest for greatness, and many find it. The school boasts 30 provincial championships and 130 Island championships in track. But the ring near Oak Bay Recreation Centre attracts athletes of all ages, abilities and communities seeking exercise or camaraderie.

Mustard Seed Food Rescue Project
The Mustard Seed works with local retailers to redistribute fresh, nutritious foods through the Food Share Network. In the 22,000 sq foot warehouse, they rescue 10,000+ pounds of food per day that was destined for the landfill and distribute it safely to 70+ Food Share Network members. Their commercial kitchen allows them to turn many rescued foods into sauces, soups, stocks and smoothies while reducing waste output.

Threshold Housing Project
Threshold House is a gender-inclusive home where youth develop community and plan for their future with the support of Threshold staff. As with all THS homes, knowing that they can count on a roof over their heads and on a sense of caring community means that Threshold House youth can concentrate on recovering from the experiences that put them at risk of homelessness, and begin to imagine and build brighter futures. For the more than 50 youth living in any Threshold home, a Foundation program of life skills, recovery, cultural support, and community connection helps them move from survival mode to creating goals for the future.

1000x5 Literacy Project
The goal of 1000×5 is for all children to have books in the home and to have heard 1000 books by age 5. For children’s literacy, listening to books as a baby and toddler is one of the most important activities that a child will ever do. Handling books, listening to stories and enjoying time spent with an important adult builds language, imagination, and many important connections in the developing brain.
